31 Days to Shine :: Day 3, you are the light

Before we move forward, it's probably a good idea to chat about what in the world it means to shine your light. Ok? Ok.

I certainly don't have all of this figured out. I never will, but I'm praying that this month of digging deeper into Him will make things more clear.

I read these words this morning and have been sitting on them all day ::
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.     Matthew 5:14-16
Jesus does not say you are like a light or be a light when you feel up to it.

He says You are the light

Soooo what does being a light mean and what does it involve? How does being a light look on me? How can my light shine brighter? What makes it dim?

Whew.

I decided to tackle something simple first - the definition of light ::

light
1. something that makes vision possible
2. the illumination or radiance from a source of light

Connecting the dots....

We live in a dark world laced with sin and hard and hurt. We desperately need a light to see, to live. Jesus is just that. He saved us from this darkness and death with His life and His death and His rising.

So how do we fit?

We are witnesses to the light, to Jesus. Our life, our actions, our words are to point to him. Always. He shines through us so brightly that we, too, are a light.

He commands those who know Truth to share it, to live it - whether you're a little girl with braids down her back, a silver haired senior, or a teenage dreamboat.

Being a light? It's a privilege. A gift. One that holds great responsibility.

Let's chat more tomorrow. And the 27 days after. (I may or may not be freaking out about that number! Eeee!) Until then....

  1. well said. And I love the point that "He shines through us so brightly that we, too, are a light." I will be thinking about that a lot! So glad you are doing this!!
